Pim Palsgraaf

Netherlands, 1979

Pim Palsgraaf is a Dutch artist who lives and works in Rotterdam. His practice focuses on large-scale sculptures and installations that explore urban decay and the uncontrolled expansion of cities, highlighting the tension between nature and culture.

Inspired by abandoned urban spaces, empty corridors, ruined rooms, and structures on the verge of collapse, Palsgraaf depicts the fragility of human-made architecture and the inevitable intervention of nature. In some of his series, urban landscapes are embedded into taxidermy animals, where the city appears as an invasive organism overtaking the natural body, emphasizing the impermanence of human creations.

With a background in painting, he approaches sculpture as a three-dimensional collage, layering recovered wood and found materials in a painterly manner. His interest in perception and constructed realities has led to spatial works that blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture, inviting viewers to question their relationship with the contemporary urban environment.
