TEMPORARY EXHIBITION
Postcards from the Invisible
This exhibition presents a small selection from the large series titled Impronta, originally composed of 99 photographs by Sergio de Luz. The series was also published in a book and featured in a solo exhibition held in Manhattan in May 2015, as well as within the framework of the PHotoEspaña 2015 festival
This series is unified by the phenomenon of pareidolia—a psychological mechanism by which the brain perceives familiar shapes, such as faces or human and animal figures, in objects or places where they don’t actually exist. It is not simply about ‘seeing faces,’ but rather a form of perception that transforms the everyday into something entirely different. In an interview, the artist described them as dreamlike games. Through this lens, Sergio de Luz invites us to explore several cities he visited over the course of a year: Barcelona, Madrid, New York, Paris, and Mumbai.
The images, mostly in black and white and taken with a mobile phone, evoke a spontaneous visual poetry—without staging, preparation, or artificial post-production. Here, the image itself takes center stage.
With his photographs, Sergio manages to deconstruct reality and transform an object or scene into something unrecognizable and aesthetically beautiful. Using everyday elements, he constructs scenographies that suggest dreamlike visions—very different from the actual objects they originate from. His images are true visual puzzles, an invitation to complete the meaning between the one who shows and the one who observes.
Sergio travels the world with a keen eye for capturing geometries and symmetries, light and shadow, composing visual games—realities that dissolve and reconfigure themselves as metaphors for other imaginary worlds.

Sergio de Luz, Madrid (Spain), 1981
In his captivating photographic journey, Sergio de Luz forges an intimate connection with the ebb and flow, where each creation is guided by the subtle melody of the drift. He seamlessly merges the essence of light with his creative process, a journey that began with self-taught and playful exploration, using a salvaged camera to lay the foundational stones of his current photographic understanding.
Although initially drawn to portraiture, a fortuitous turn led him into the captivating world of fashion photography, where light became his key means of expression — especially when capturing the female form. It was then that he began working for major brands and publications.
At the same time, he started using his phone in daily life. Through this new way of taking photographs across different cities, he managed to find a distinctive style — not only visually, but also in the way he communicates with the viewer. By doing so, he invites each viewer to complete their own interpretation of the images. Driven by this approach, he switched equipment, experimented far from the comfort of the urban environment, and continued using his mobile phone for specific projects.
In 2015, Sergio de Luz became the first Spanish photographer to exhibit a complete series in New York City, created exclusively with a mobile phone.
