Rebeca Plana
TEMPORAL EXHIBITION
Virtues & Deadly Sins
Albalat de la Ribera, Valencia (Spain), 1990
Valencian artist Rebeca Plana has crafted two series, each consisting of seven works, in which she captivates the essence of the seven deadly sins and the seven deadly virtues through her distinct and dynamic abstract technique. These creations are distinguished by their vibrant color palettes and fearless brushwork, encapsulating the core elements of morality and ethics.
Plana’s choice to explore the realms of the deadly sins and virtues in her artwork can be interpreted as an endeavor to delve into the inherent dualities within human nature. As she delves into the deadly sins, such as lust, greed, or anger, Plana confronts us with the imperfections and weaknesses that exist within each of us to some extent. Her energetic brushstrokes and intense colors can mirror the emotional intensity often associated with these vices.
Conversely, in her depictions of the cardinal virtues, such as kindness, patience, or temperance, the artist presents a pathway to transcend our shortcomings and strive towards a better version of ourselves. Her works convey the concept of personal growth and development through gracefully flowing brushwork and colors that evoke a sense of tranquility and equilibrium.
Rebeca Plana explores the intricate duality of human nature through these two series of artworks. Her dynamic brushwork and audacious use of color within the abstract art context add a distinctive dimension to the portrayal of the deadly sins and virtues, encouraging us to contemplate our personal journey towards self-reflection and self-improvement.
